The Director of Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for total care in the ! areas at the FSED. The position requires knowledge and skill of professional nursing theory and practice, leadership in administration, principles of effective teaching and learning, fiscal management, and effective interpersonal relationships and communication. The Service Director assumes responsibility to ensure best outcomes result in safe, high quality compassionate patient family centered care. The Director assists and works collaboratively with the ED leadership team across the entire hospital Emergency Services line in the implementation of Performance Improvement activities, hospital policies/procedures, and in the financial management of the Free Standing Emergency Center. Additional functions and roles include: Achieving Operational Metrics (Patient Satisfaction, Employee Satisfaction, Productivity, and Quality); Physician and EMS Relations (Medical Director and Physician Leaders); Marketing, Communications/PR, and Community Outreach (Marketing); Budgeting and Fi! scal Management (Finance); Cost Containment (Supply Chain); Fa! cility Development.

6. Maintains 24-hour accountability for the direction, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of activities and services of the freestanding emergency department
7. Develop/implement policies/procedures that guide and support the provision of services in an evidenc! ed-based environment
8. Coordinate all department services placing patient safety as the primary goal
9. Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities
10. Interviewing and hiring of FSED employees, as well as ancillary staff with respective hospital department directors
11. Scheduling all clinical nursing/paramedic staff
12. Participates in financial planning, budgeting, and management of the FSED.
13. Plans and coordinates staff meetings and related in-services
14. Clinical resource for the Nursing Unit and Ancillary departments on the campus.
15. Serves as an advocate for FSED staff, and participates in development and evaluation of professional practice by participating in unit and/or hospital committees, special projects, and town hall meetings.
16. Evaluation of staff performance including discipline, counseling, and staff development.
17. Manages cli! nical activities, assuring age specific standards are maintained by sta! ff as well as director.
18. Seeks opportunities to improve processes for all departments represented at the FSED and creates an environment to encourage unit based staff participation
19. Coordinates with other Directors in regards to competencies and clinical skills for areas such as Radiology, laboratory, Environmental Services etc.
20. Collaborates with local EMS for patient transports and transfers.
21. Provides and actively participates in community outreach and business development as it relates to local market conditions and activities
22. Will serve as facilitator to enhance, promote and improve care delivery through collaboration, strong verbal/written communication skills, and ongoing performance improvement
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Training Experience Required
Education:
a. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
b. Bachelor of Sci! ence in Nursing required
c. Masterâs degree in Nursing or related field required
Experience:
a. 7-10 years progressive nursing experience preferred; 3-5 years emergency nursing experience required
b. Maintains clinical and leadership competencies
c. Previous management/leadership experience or demonstrated ability to serve in a leadership position.
d. Participates in professional organizations
