Nurse III Geri Nurse III Job Description: Participates as a team member or team coordinator utilizing expertise in the area of nursing in inspections, certifications, surveys, and investigations in Long Term Care facilities (Nursing Facilities, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living Facilities, and Day Habilitation and Health Services) to determine compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and rules. Completes inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies/violations and prepares written reports supporting the action and remedies recommended. Utilizes professional expertise and specializes in the following discipline: Social Services/Nursing/Nutrition/Generalist surveyor.

Essential Job Functions:
Essential Job Functions: Communicates on a complex level with others (internally or externally) to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems or complaints. Testifies at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, history, findings, or activities. Completes inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies and prepares written reports supporti ng the actions and remedies recommended. Visits facilities to verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations. Conducts exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings and may assist in developing a plan to correct deficiencies. Conducts certification surveys, licensure inspections, or investigations in facilities to determine compliance with federal and state regulations. Performs quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others (for example, publications, assessments, reports).

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Registrations, Licensure, Requirements or Certifications: Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. Must successfully obtain Surveyor Minimum Qualification (SMQT) within the first year of employment.

Initial Selection Criteria:
Initial Screening Criteria: Experience in a Long Term Care Regulatory program preferred. Experience as a practicing registered nurse in a hospital, an institutional health care facility, home health nursing. Experience preparing detailed written reports. Experience evaluating reported complaints/incidents.
