Job Description

I. Position Summary:
Schedules procedures and appointments in compliance with the Operating Room, En! doscopy Lab, and Cath Lab rules and regulations as prescribed by the governing bodies of Medical Center Hospital. H/she assists the informatics manager and directors of Surgical Services in clerical duties that are associated with record keeping of surgical cases, and utilizing PHS software.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Informatics Manager and Directors of Surgical
Services
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: Continual contact with physicians and
physicianâs office staff, unit staff and
hospital personnel
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Work Performed:
1. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
2. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
3. Participates in and promotes the âI CARE Adv! antageâ service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, ! Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
4. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
5. Promote unit goals and objectives.
6. Demonstrate effective communication by expressing ideas clearly and utilizing appropriate communication strategies.
7. Utilize a self-direct approach to education and self-improvement.
8. Posts surgical cases.

IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:
A. Efficient in the utilization of the PHS scheduling module.
B. Knowledgeable of and follows scheduling protocols. Does not schedule conflicting procedures.
C. Assists with pre-registration to expedite patient registration.
D. Patients are properly informed regarding pre-pr! ocedure requirements.
E. Answers phones in three rings or less. Is courteous and professional in all interactions.
F. Responds to voice mail promptly.
G. Seeks assistance from supervisor or management when necessary.
H. Provides feedback to physicians and patients regarding insurance authorization requirements prior to scheduling.
I. Exhibits a thorough understanding of scheduling outpatient procedures.
V. Qualifications:
A. Education:
Holds a current Texas permit or license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
B. Training and Experience:
Receptionist and/or secretarial experience preferred. Computer knowledge and medical terminology preferred. Ability to perform under stressful conditions. Strong communication skills.
VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
B. Normal hospital environment with possible! exposure to infectious diseases and radiation.
