The practitioner functions as a health care provider within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) specialty service for the purpose of pr! oviding age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care.
This position is open to Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The practice will involve care and management of patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) specialty setting. Care will include performing admission H & Ps, plan of care and day-to-day management of NICU patients. Practitioner will manage (in collaboration with the attending) the entire inpatient course. Practitioner will initiate referrals and follow up on consults to other providers.
This position will require credentialing through our Medical Staff Services Department.
Qualifications
Education
Master's degree in Nursing.
Licenses & certifications
Current RN license (or eligible) in the State of Texas.
Recognition as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (or eligible) by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Current CPR/BLS fo! r the Healthcare Provider, and current NRP certification.

Experience
Previous NNP experience in a Level III NICU preferred.
Requires 2 - 3 years experience as a RN in a Level III - IV NICU.
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities
Must possess the ability to actively identify new areas for learning; regularly create and take advantage of learning opportunities, and use newly gained knowledge and skill on the job and learn through their application
Must possess the ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner
Must be flexible and adaptable; conditions and environment are unpredictable and change frequently
Must be able to hear the wider range of sound frequencies in order to detect murmurs and other abnormalities
Must possess the ability to maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance
Must possess the ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge and experiences in a timely manner
Each member of the Advanced Practice Service will function in a role that, by its very nature, requires a high degree of professionalism. It is imperative that Nurse Practitioners manage their individual performance
Demonstrate ownership and responsiveness in their customer service approach to patient care and contributes to an atmosphere of teamwork within their group
This job requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to neonates. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the neonatal life span, must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and must be able to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures
Physical demands
Heavy - Exerting 60-100 lbs. occasionally, 2! 5-60 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 constantly.
