Assist with the delivery of patient care for University Health Services, primarily assigned to General Medicine Clinic.

Essential Functions

Assists with the evaluation and care of patients to be seen by UHS providers. Performs department specific procedures and treatments such as EKGs, peak flows, vision testing, nebulizer therapy, ear irrigations, wound care, application of orthopedic devices, and crutch teaching. Assists with minor surgeries, participates in patient health teaching, and performs office nursing tasks. Exhibits customer service-oriented behavior and excellent public relations skills. Demonstrates professional and team oriented behavior.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Licensed as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas. One year of experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in an Ambulatory Care setting. CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Experience with and a moderate comfort level using a personal computer. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Three or more years experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. More than one year of experience in an ambulatory, outpatient or college health setting. Experience using electronic medical records. Demonstrated good communication, interpersonal skills, team-building skills, and professional demeanor.

Working conditions

May work around standard office conditions

May work around biohazards

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Use of manual dexterity

Usual office and outpatient clinic condictions. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Exposure to fumes, chemicals, sprays, and commercial items found in standard office conditions, medical clinics, and in repairs and maintenance.

Security sensitive; conviction verification conducted on applicant selected.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (

TRS

), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
