Major/Essential Functions
Position Description:
- Provides primary care as part of health care team in an ambulatory setting in an outpatient setting.
- Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment.
- May participate in teaching programs for students and residents.
- Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals.
- Ensures Joint Commission and HIPAA compliance and meet all billing regulations and requirements.
- Adheres to institutional and department policies and procedures.
- Assist resident/faculty perform procedures as needed within the approved scope of practice.
- Write prescriptions (except for controlled substances) in accordance with approved protocols or scope of practice.
- Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the PLFSOM’s Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility
- MSN degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN license in the State of Texas
- Certified as Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from approved certification program as recognized by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Recognized by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practitioner
- Master’s degree in PA studies or related field
- Successful completion of a Physician Assistant Training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. ( ARC -PA) or by that committee’s predecessor entities
- Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
- Current Physician Assistant Texas License or eligible for Physician Assistant license granted by the Texas Physician Assistant Board
- General medical knowledge and skills necessary to assist supervising faculty
Qualifications
Graduate degree in a an academic subject, professional discipline, or technical skill in the area in which the incumbent will work

- Bilingual: English / Spanish
- Previous Primary Care Clinical Experience
