Job Title: Staff Nurse - Hem/Onc Clinic Job ID: 128671 Location: Medical Center, Houston, TX Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Shift: 10:30am - 7pm

Overview:
Provide direct and telephone nursing care, health teaching, patient advocacy, supervision, coordination of care by others and the coordination of services required for patients in a manner that is age and developmentally appropriate.
Responsibilities:
Assess patients; document the patient/family assessment; ensure the quality, frequency and extent of ongoing assessment reflects identified information; ensure the assessment includes a systematic approach, patient's condition, developmental age, current practice standards of the specialty unit and adherence to unit protocol. Plan process of care; complete or participate in plan of patient care; reprioritize care based on new information; involve patient/family and significant individuals in planning activities. Implement plan of care; analyze situations and anticipate problems; implement therapeutic intervention/a! ssessment procedures; demonstrate the ability to perform gener! ic and unit-based/critical competencies, including the specific care of age and diagnosis; provide care consistent with policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies and with consideration given to risk management and infection control practices. Evaluate plan of care, document patient responses to care provided and recognize patient's progress towards meeting desired outcomes; follow up and document with abnormal labs. Educate patients, families and community; formulate, implement, document and update an individual teaching plan for patients; use teaching strategies suitable for the learning ability of the patient/family; evaluate effectiveness of the teaching plan and make updates and modification as necessary; identify parent need for anxiety/grief intervention and recommend/utilize available resources for psycho-social support; develop and maintain education materials/packets; serve as a liaison/resource to community (school nurses, home health agencies and inpatie! nt units). Oversee the delegation of care activities to LVNs and unlicensed personnel; evaluate need for staffing and workload levels; complete charging documents. Function as patient care/clinic coordinator; coordinate, organize and support activities of designated clinic/service; act as a liaison between patients and physicians; ensure follow up letters, letters of medical necessity and referral correspondence are provided; monitor patient flow in clinic, including patient wait time and guest relations to promote customer service; ensure charts are reviewed and maintained.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of nursing functions, basic anatomy and physiology and diagnostic procedures required. The ability to demonstrate and perform generic and unit-based/critical competencies including the specific care of age and diagnosis appropriate patients; positive interpersonal skills; utilize time and resources in a cost effective manner; flexibility; good verbal a! nd written communication skills; delegation; operate basic medical equi! pment; read and analyze basic medical equipment; utilize a personal computer to include word processing and basic office equipment.
Education, Licensure and Experience:
Bachelor's or Associate's in nursing with Texas RN licensure. Two (2) years nursing experience and previous ambulatory experience preferred.
