Administers respiratory care to patients as ordered by the attending physician. Conduct! s diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, therapy. Under the general supervision of the Perinatal Transport Team Manager, NICU Specialty Coordinator, Neonatal and Maternal Medical Directors, as well as Department Director and according to hospital policies and procedures, the Transport therapist participates as a member of the Perinatal Transport Team in the identification, assessment, stabilization and transport of the high-risk infant and/or high-risk OB patient.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to patient care. Uses a wide range of therapeutic and diagnostic modalities in the treatment of cardiopulmonary diseases and conditions including oxygen and other specialty gases, aerosolized drugs, chest physiotherapy, resuscitators, ventilators, aspirators, bedside spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis. Capable of monitoring and treating patie! nts ranging from neonatal to geriatric. Works closely with phy! sicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals; other contacts include visitors, vendors, and staff from other area hospitals. Works closely with other transport team members to set priorities and make decisions of a complex nature. Regular and predictable attendance is required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Required:
Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Therapist program.
Preferred:
BS degree.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Three years experience in a Level III NICU and general acute care hospital experience.
Preferred: Five years experience in Level III NICU and general acute care hospital experience. Previous ground and/or air transport experience.
CREDENTIALS:
Required:
Registered Respiratory Therapist credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); Licensed as a Respiratory
Care Practitioner by the State o! f Texas; BLS
Preferred:
ACLS and/or NRP
