Clinical Support Tech
Job Description

I. Position Summary:
Maintains orders, patient records, and department ! records. Performs basic and advanced EKG and EEG procedures
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Cardiopulmonary Supervisor
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: Departmental personnel, nursing personnel,
patients and their families and physicians.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
C. Participates in and promotes the âI CARE Advantageâ service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
E. Performs the following procedures when directed:
1. EEG procedures
2. EKG Procedures
3. Car! diac Monitoring Procedures
4. Assist in training staf! f to above
5. Transporting of inpatients to perspective departments for testing procedures.
F. Perform patient instruction prior to procedures.
G. Verify that appropriate consent has been obtained prior to procedures.
H. Record quality improvement data as required.
I. Responsible for updating patient records where necessary.
J. Must take weekend, holiday and nocturnal call. Provide backup coverage for EEG tech and Cardiac Monitor Tech when necessary.
K. Edit daily EKGâs and prepare EKGâs to be returned to the patient chart.
L. Transfer tests to âAny Physician to read Boxâ according to MCH reading policy.
M. Maintain orders for other tests as necessary.
N. Obtain open orders list and investigate and resolve open orders for the department.
O. Order supplies for the Electrodiagnostics department. Observe supply levels to ensure that supplies are available and budget is ma! intained.
P. Complete check requests and travel requests for the department as necessary.
Q. Assist with preparing monthly reports as directed.
R. Maintains records in the Muse system as needed. Assures that new staff is entered into the system, and that staff are inactivated as necessary.
S. Supplies used daily are stocked and staff is notified when additional supplies need to be ordered.
T. Greet customers and accommodate patient needs.
U. Assists to facilitate scheduling of procedures.
V. Maintain professional working relationships with staff to ensure smooth workflow within the department.
IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:
A. Perform duties for the following age categories:
1. Newborn/infant 4. Adult
2. Pediatric 5. Geriatric
3. Adolescent
B. Ability to perform all procedures with little or no assistance.
C. Obtain consistent! ly accurate procedure data.
D. Assistance in performing primar! y duties is minimal.
E. Demonstrated knowledge of the use and function of diagnostic equipment routinely used in the Electrodiagnostics department.
F. Records and QA data is obtained and recorded in the appropriate format.
G. Works in an organized and independent manner.
H. Patient satisfaction.
I. Willingness to assist coworkers, physicians, patients and their families, etc., without complaint or hesitance.
J. Attendance, productivity and punctuality.
V. Qualifications:
A. Education:
High School diploma or equivalent. One year of college preferred.
B. Training and Experience:
Credentialing for the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists preferred. Competence in basic computer functions. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. Successful completion of Arrhythmia analysis and Basic Dysrhythmia course must be completed within one of hire date.
VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Possible exposure to pathogenic organisms, toxic or hazardous materials and ionizing radiation.
B. Assisting with positioning patients for procedures.
C. Transport portable diagnostic equipment.
D. Ability to perform in a stressful work environment. Ability to work more than 40 hours per week.
E. Transporting patients to and from the department.
