This Job Description for the Director of Surgical provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in the position of Director of Surgical. The Director oversees care for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients under going assessment and/or procedures in the perioperative environment.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for nursing! care rendered in the department including the Operating Room ! (OR), PACU, Holding Area, Sterile Processing, and Anesthesia Techinicans based on the professional nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Integrates services into the organizations primary functions.
Coordinates interdepartmental and intradepartmental services.
Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services.
Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care and treatment.
Determines and ensures the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, demonstrated and improved upon on an on-going basis.
Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.
Maintains quality control programs as appropriate.
Responsible for orienting and providing inservice training and continuing education f! or all persons in the department.
Recommends space and other resources needed by the department.
Participates in selecting sources needed for services not provided by the department or organization.
Supports the mission, goals and objectives of the hospital.
Maintains and improves own nursing knowledge and professional development.
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Two years experience in the perioperative environment with two years of experience in management required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Educational requirements appropriate for meeting population-specific needs of patients in the Surgical Service environment.
Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
Knowledge of AORN Standards and Practices.
CNOR preferred.
