Description: North Central Methodist ASC is currently interviewing OR Tech PRN - North Central Methodist Ambulatory Surgery Center right now, this job will be placed in Texas. Responsible for assuring quality patient care by coordinating with the Registered Nurse in the planning an! d implementation of patient care in the Operating Room. Will demonstrate knowledge of all major surgical specialty region such as; gathering/preparing sterile supplies, equipment, preparing/maintaining the sterile field and assisting the surgeon by supplying sterile instruments/supplies in the sterile field in a safe and efficient manner. Must perform routine scrub as well specifically delegated duties according to AORN standards, established policies and procedures of the department of surgery.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Determines plans for and obtaining equipment/supplies for assigned procedures according to physicians' preference for specific patient needs. Will prepare and set up operating room with surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes and sterile solutions. Must assemble both sterile and nonsterile equipment, ensures all equipment is accounted for and in working order.

2. Will follow manufacturer's recommendations and specifica! tions for uses during surgical procedures and open sterile pac! ks, instruments and supplies for each procedure according to established aseptic techniques and protocols.

3. Monitors sterile field during procedure and takes appropriate measures to insure integrity of sterile field and maintenance of sterile techniques. Initiates corrective action for any break in technique.

4. Prepares medications and solutions for use during procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse, according to physician's orders.

5. Maintains accountability for instruments, sponges and sharps, according to hospital policy throughout the surgical procedure to ensure that no foreign objects are retained in the surgical wound. Takes appropriate action if item count is not correct and will inform appropriate staff.

6. Assist the surgeon with retraction, cutting sutures, maintaining visualization for the surgical site. Utilizing rigid safety procedures and protocols when handling sharp instruments, powered equipment, hazar! dous chemicals and lasers.

Additional Job Function

1. May handle, pick up, deliver and/or stock non-controlled medications as directed by a licensed team member.

2. Maintains an efficient controlled Operating Room environment by processing and re-stocking supplies and equipment.

3. Ensures the integrity and safety of the specimen prior to pathology procedures. Collects and labels specimens for diagnostic lab per hospital policy and procedure.

4. Assists with providing care for the patient both pre-, intra, and post specialized procedure. Will aid with transporting and positioning patient on the operating bed, specific to operative procedure, type of anesthetics to be used, and use of protective devices as indicated.

5. Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

6. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare Sys! tem and its associated facilities achieve its goals.

7. Must l! earn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.

8. Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.

9. Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:
High School graduate or GED equivalent required.

One to two years experience as an OR Surgical Technologist preferred.
Current CPR certification as a Basic Rescuer.

Graduate of an operating room technical program or significant experience in the profession.
