24/7 responsibility for unit

The incumbent will be the Nurse Manager on a busy Medical Surgical unit, and must have the knowledge base and ability to coordinate nursing care, supervise personnel and monitor compliance for positive outcomes. The responsibili! ties will be accomplished while promoting the utilization of sound clinical judgment in the implementation of the nursing process to provide systematic patient care
Basic Qualifications :
Nursing degree from a NLN accredited program
A MINIMUM OF FIVE YEARS OF Recent, Successful, and Proven Nursing Experience, (REQUIRED) Telemetry Experience (Preferred)
B.S.N. Degree AND Masters of Science in Nursing or Master's Degree in a related field or higher degree, required
Two or more years of progressive Nurse Management practice, Preferred
Citizen of the United States
Responsibilities :
1. Directs and implements practice according to established polices, standards of care and standards of practice
2. Demonstrates leadership in providing and improving the delivery of nursing care
3. Demonstrates competencies specific to caring for acutely ill patients, patients requiring BiPap ventilation, and patien! ts requiring continuous cardiac monitoring.
4. Manages nursing care! delivery and staff development.
5. Responsible to the Care Line leader or their designee.
6. Initiates policies relative to practice area.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Demonstrates competencies specific to nursing management.
- Ability to utilize the nursing process in the management of life-threatening interventions.
- Ability to work effectively with and as a part of the interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to coordinate the resolution of bio-ethical issues with patients, families, and significant others.
- Ability to facilitate staff documentation of patient educational goals, methods of instruction, and evaluation of patient response in and assure that interventions are consistent with the medical plan of care.
- Ability to identify and coordinate the resolution of interdisciplinary patient care problems.
- Ability to coordinate the delivery of nursing care.
- Ability to effectively s! upervise nursing personnel.
- Ability to utilize time management strategies to prioritize staff workload distribution.
- Ability to correspond and report in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ability to utilize sound judgment in making administrative decisions including the ability to accurately interpret and implement VAMC and Nursing policies.
- Demonstrated dependability and flexibility.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia . In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Must be proficient in spoken and written English .
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards B! oard in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
